22 members of Local 31 recently completed a four-day, hands-on, classroom course that is part of the InfoComm/IATSE Live Event Technician Certificate. Together, Infocomm and IATSE have developed a customized classroom course and certificate program for stagehands who want to grow their technical and customer service skills.
The training portion of this class gave each participant an overview of the AV industry, introduced them to the science and vocabulary of audiovisual systems, and the “AV math” that eliminates system setup guess work.
The hands-on portion of this class covered basic setup, operation, and troubleshooting of audio, video, presentation files, and AV networks typical in breakout rooms. Each candidate completed a breakout room set-up in an allotted amount of time as a hands-on final exam. A major portion of the training dealt with customer service and presentation, and candidates interacted with and fielded questions from a ‘client’ as part of the hands-on exam.
All candidates must also complete an online training module to receive their certificates.
Congratulations to our InfoComm/IATSE Live Event Technician Certificate holders!
